BACKGROUND |
 |
Formed in 1997, Force Protection has become the nation's leading center for blast technology and counter improvised
explosive device (IED) research as it designs, manufactures, tests, delivers, and supports blast- and mine-protected
vehicles throughout the world.
With its first South Carolina headquarters at the Charleston Naval Yard, Force Protection moved to a 260-acre campus
on Highway 78 in Ladson, South Carolina, just ten miles west of the Charleston Air Base in November 2003. Occupying
the first 87,000 sq ft of space in a plant that previously produced General Electric turbine engines, vehicle production capacity continued to increase.
Force Protection’s dramatic growth has necessitated the expansion of its production facilities to 400,000 sq ft of
administrative, manufacturing, research and development, test and integration space and the increase of its workforce to more than 1,000.
