Corporate Controller



Location: Ladson/Summerville, SC

Position Responsibilities
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing corporate and operational accounting, management reporting, internal controls and accounting processes, the external audit and tax coordination. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing a staff of 20+ individuals. As a result, the Controller will be expected to evaluate current and ongoing staffing needs.

The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of corporate and operational accounting including the month end close process, general ledger accounting, cost accounting and inventory analysis, accounts receivable and billings, accounts payable, payroll and fixed assets. The Controller will be expected to work with management to identify opportunities to become more efficient and streamline processes that will facilitate a smooth integration of a new subsidiary. The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of corporate accounting including the month end close process and general ledger accounting. The Controller will be expected to ensure that the monthly close is completed on time and make recommendations to improve current processes. The Controller will be responsible to assist the V/P. Finance, Director of SEC Reporting, Director of Government Compliance, Director of Internal Control, General Council and others as necessary.
Other duties and responsibilities are as follows:
-Technical Accounting – The Controller will perform research and analysis of technical accounting issues affecting the Company. Assist the SEC Financial Reporting in ensuring the Force Protection’s accounting and reporting policies are in accordance with current generally accepted accounting principles.
-Management Reporting – The Controller will be asked to refine the reporting of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to a level of detail and analysis that will help the managers improve their departments.
-Process Improvement- Ensure the appropriate and effective financial infrastructure is in place to accommodate company’s current ongoing business requirement as well as future needs. This includes all aspects of accounting and reporting systems, and consolidating the financial footprint maximizing the implementation of the new financial management system (MAS500).
-Internal Controls and Accounting Processes – The Controller will be responsible for evaluating existing processes and related internal controls to make recommendations for improvement and ensure against internal control weaknesses. The Controller will work closely with the third-party Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) consulting firm to ensure compliance with SOX Section 404.
-The Controller will be responsible for evaluating existing processes and related internal controls to make recommendations for improvement and ensure against material internal control weaknesses.
-External Audit – The Controller along with the Director of SEC Reporting will be expected to coordinate the year-end audit and quarterly reviews with the public accounting firm, administer their progress and implement relevant recommendations.
Tax Coordination – The Controller will be responsible for compiling an annual tax reporting package and work closely with a tax firm on special projects.

In addition, this person selected for this position will be expected to manage the relationship with the public accounting firm, administer their progress and implement relevant recommendations. Position Requirements
Requires a Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting and CPA/CMA or MBA. Minimum of 10 years experience directly related to working in a manufacturing environment and a minimum of 5 years demonstrated management experience. Requires strong management and leadership skills to direct a highly professional staff, promote team effort, and develop strong working relationships across functional and divisional lines. A strong background in building and maintaining a sound financial organization through the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of employees. A demonstrated track record of successfully managing through change is required. A demonstrated ability to simultaneously administer and coordinate multiple, ongoing projects, ensuring they are implemented effectively within targeted timelines and costs is necessary. Requires demonstrated comprehensive business skills with a business perspective beyond functional expertise. A sense of broader business strategy is needed. Requires sound executive judgment and a deep business acumen that includes strategic thinking and visionary goals for the future of the organization and an excellent understanding of the value process by which products are cost effectively produced and delivered to customers. Listening skills that lead to a clear understanding of needs and issues. The ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-accountants. Unquestioned integrity, credibility, and character. A dedicated team player with a collegial style.

Cost Accounting Standards, SOX experience, knowledge of Federal/Department of Defense contracts and practices, experience in business analysis and financial planning analysis preferred.
