The Charleston RiverDogs and longtime partner Force Protection Industries, Inc. aren’t waiting to begin promoting the Medal of Honor Society's Convention that takes place in Charleston later this fall.
The sixth-year affiliate of the New York Yankees and Force Protection will team up during the RiverDogs’ season to promote the convention that will be held in Charleston, September 29-October 3.
“We are honored to do our part to help promote this once-in-a-lifetime event in Charleston,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “We’ve always tried to support our troops locally and overseas, and are proud to partner with Force Protection Industries to help promote the upcoming Medal of Honor Society Convention.”
For the third consecutive year, the RiverDogs players and coaches will wear red jerseys every home Friday night game (11 this year) and is billed as “Force Protection Red Shirt Friday” and during the two scheduled Force Protection Military Appreciation Nights (May 13 and Aug. 19).
“Force Protection is proud to once again sponsor the RiverDogs’ Military Appreciation Nights and Red Shirt Fridays this season,” said Force Protection Senior Communications Director Tommy Pruitt. “Our commitment to serve those who serve us throughout our military extends to all aspects of our community involvement. This year’s Medal of Honor Convention presents a great opportunity for our community to once again showcase its special relationship with our nation’s military. Force Protection is proud to be a sponsor for the Medal of Honor Convention, and we look forward to helping the Charleston community host the recipients and their guests later this year.”
This year, the RiverDogs’ staffers will wear special red Polo shirts that feature a “Beyond Valor” patch to promote the upcoming convention.
Inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, the Medal of Honor Society Convention will be promoted throughout the season. The RiverDogs will feature brief segments on the video board during each Red Shirt Friday game that will educate fans about the program and honor the three living Medal of Honor recipients in the State of South Carolina (Major General Jim Livingston USMC, Ret., Col. Chuck Murray, US Army, Ret., and Master Sergeant John Baker, US Army, Ret.) and other Medal of Honor recipients. Additionally, there will be an outfield billboard sign, souvenir program articles and special promotional table display at each game.
In addition to the RiverDogs donning the special red jerseys each Friday night to support the military, the team will also discount tickets to those games and offer the fans an opportunity to donate that saved dollar to families who have members overseas. Further, the game jerseys will be auctioned after the Friday, Sept. 3 contest against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, with the proceeds again supporting Charleston Area Service Men and Women.
Force Protection Industries, Inc. is based in nearby Ladson, and will have a vehicle on display outside the main gates of The Joe each Friday. Force Protection Industries Inc. manufactures military vehicles including the Buffalo and Cougar. These vehicles help keep our troops safer during missions, saving heroes lives.
